The latest Employee Sentiment Index revealed: 

Employee confidence in the economy is steadying 

After a pause in interest rate hikes between July – September this year, it seems confidence in the economy is beginning to pick up in Australia.

Last quarter, 35% of workers believed the economy was not secure, down from an all-time-high of 44% in the previous quarter. 

But given the return of rate hikes earlier this month, this uptick in confidence may be temporary. 

The focus on flexibility returns for jobseekers 

Flexible/remote working has beaten stability in the list of job-seeking priorities. It’s the first time in over a year that flexible/remote working has ranked second on its own, having previously tied with stability.

This shift mirrors the fact that employees are feeling more confident in the economy, allowing them to prioritise flexible and remote working options when looking for a new job.

However for Gen Z, there is one thing that tops flexible working or salary when they’re looking for a new job. 

Employees are still accruing leave in bulk

On average, Australian employees have 22 days of annual leave. Some 23% of employees have accrued more than the yearly annual leave entitlement of four weeks, exactly the same figure as last year.

But there is one generation who are far more likely to accrue leave in bulk than any other.
