Building Better People Solutions Together: The Momentum and ELMO Story

Momentum Software Solutions  has been helping Australian businesses streamline operations and implement best-in-class ERP systems since 2007. Over the years, they’ve grown from a Queensland-based consultancy into a national leader in ERP delivery and support.

But while the ERP landscape had evolved, one issue kept surfacing: HR and payroll systems were still operating in silos, leaving businesses with inefficiencies, duplication of data, and frustrated employees. That’s when Momentum saw an opportunity to do things differently.

We sat down with Managing Director Alistair Emery to talk through the story behind their partnership with ELMO, and how it’s helping Momentum deliver more value to their clients, and unlocking new growth for their business.

Key Takeaways:

ELMO Optimisation

From Market Gap to Custom Connector

Momentum identified a recurring challenge among their clients: disconnected HR and payroll systems creating inefficiencies and duplication. Rather than waiting for a solution, they built one—developing a custom connector between ELMO and their ERP platforms to deliver a seamless, integrated experience.

Strong collaboration that delivers shared success

Working closely with ELMO’s partner and technical teams, Momentum embedded themselves early in the onboarding process to ensure every implementation runs smoothly. The result? Streamlined workflows, aligned data, and happier clients.

Enabling new growth with a complete people solution

With ELMO in their toolkit, Momentum is now positioned to offer end-to-end people solutions that many of their competitors can’t match. It’s helping them attract and retain more complex clients—and laying the foundation for a dedicated ELMO practice inside the business.

Before ELMO: Recognising a Clear Gap in the Market

Like many of our partners, Momentum had existing relationships with major software providers, including MYOB and Wiise. Their focus had always been ERP-led, helping clients get financials, operations, and payroll systems in place. But there was one consistent challenge that kept coming up.

“We found that while our ERPs had decent payroll modules, they lacked true HR capability,” says Alistair. “When we looked at what our clients were dealing with, it was clear they were juggling multiple systems just to manage the employee lifecycle, and that created a lot of inefficiencies.”

In particular, HR and payroll teams were working off disconnected systems, duplicating data entry, and manually bridging gaps between recruitment, onboarding, and payroll processing.

For Momentum, this didn’t just represent a gap in functionality, it was a missed opportunity to deliver real business value.

Discovering ELMO and Seeing the Bigger Picture

Momentum had been aware of ELMO for some time, even considering it for their own internal needs. But the real catalyst for partnership came from a client engagement.

“One of our clients was speaking with ELMO about implementing a full HR suite, from recruitment and onboarding to performance and learning,” Alistair recalls. “The only missing piece was integration with their payroll system. That’s where we saw the opportunity.”

Rather than view the integration as a one-off project, the team at Momentum recognised it as a scalable solution that could apply to many of their mid-market clients. They reached out to ELMO to discuss building a connector, and from there, a true partnership began to form.

“Some vendors treat partnerships as an afterthought. ELMO genuinely invests in partner success. From day one, Danielle, Rob and the team have been incredibly supportive. Whether it’s technical discussions, co-selling opportunities, or marketing material, they’ve had our back.”

Investing in Integration: Building the ELMO Connector

Momentum made the strategic decision to build a dedicated connector between ELMO and their ERP offering, MYOB Acumatica Payroll. It was a significant technical and resource investment, but one the team believed would deliver long-term value.

“Building a connector from scratch is a big commitment,” says Alistair. “But we saw strong demand. Clients wanted a single source of truth, where onboarding in HR automatically flowed through to payroll.”

What made this project unique was Momentum’s desire to create a seamless experience, not just for administrators, but for employees too. The goal was to enable self-service, reduce duplication, and eliminate the need for employees to toggle between HR and payroll platforms.

Since launching the connector, Momentum has been able to offer a fully integrated HR and payroll experience across multiple clients, tailoring the setup to each organisation’s specific workflows and structure.

Embedding in the Onboarding Journey

One of the key learnings for Momentum was the importance of being involved in onboarding from the outset, not just at the integration stage.

“Initially, we thought we could come in at the end and just ‘plug it in.’ But we quickly learned that successful integration relies on being part of the planning and configuration stages,” says Alistair.

Momentum now embeds themselves in the onboarding process alongside the ELMO implementation team. This three-way collaboration, between ELMO, the customer, and Momentum ensures that system architecture, data mapping, and workflows are aligned from day one.

The result? A smoother go-live, a better experience for the end user, and fewer technical hurdles down the track.

Creating Tangible Customer Outcomes

The feedback from clients has been overwhelmingly positive. With the integration in place, customers are seeing benefits across every stage of the employee journey.

“Employees get a clean, modern experience through ELMO’s self-service tools, while HR and payroll teams benefit from data consistency and reduced admin,” Alistair explains. “In some cases, recruitment and onboarding can happen without anyone needing to manually re-enter a single piece of data. It’s all synced and ready to go.”

This kind of integration is helping Momentum clients build more efficient people operations, improving data quality, reducing compliance risks, and giving employees a better first impression from day one.

A Growth Lever for Momentum

While ERP remains Momentum’s core business, the ELMO partnership has added a new dimension to their offer.

“Over the last couple of years, we’ve been growing at around 30% year-on-year,” says Alistair. “Being able to offer a fully integrated HR solution strengthens our position. It means we can serve more complex clients and offer a more complete system.”

Importantly, the ELMO integration also helps with retention, giving existing clients a reason to stay and scale with Momentum, rather than looking elsewhere for add-on HR functionality.

A Stronger Market Position

Alistair believes the integration and partnership with ELMO sets Momentum apart from the competition.

“There are still a lot of providers offering disconnected systems. But integration is no longer optional. Clients expect automation, single-source data, and intuitive workflows,” he explains.

With the connector in place, and ELMO’s ongoing development of their APIs, Momentum is well-positioned to continue expanding their people solution offering across Australia.

A True Partnership Approach

For Alistair Emery, what sets the ELMO relationship apart is how genuinely invested the team is in their partners’ success.

“From day one, Danielle, Rob and the team have been incredibly supportive. Whether it’s technical discussions, co-selling opportunities, or marketing material, they’ve had our back,” he says.

This high level of engagement has made it easier for Momentum to move quickly and confidently, whether it’s aligning on shared customer opportunities or diving into product conversations. Unlike many vendors who take a hands-off approach, ELMO stays close and collaborative throughout.

“Some vendors treat partnerships as an afterthought. ELMO genuinely invests in partner success.”

Momentum has already started introducing ELMO to others in their network, sharing what’s worked and helping bring more partners into the fold, another sign of a partnership that’s delivering value on both sides.

Looking Ahead: Future Growth with ELMO

For Momentum, the ELMO partnership is more than just a tactical solution, it’s part of their strategic roadmap.

“As ELMO continues to expand their partner program, we see a future where we have a dedicated ELMO team within Momentum,” says Alistair.

With more businesses demanding end-to-end HR and payroll integration, ELMO strengthens Momentum’s ability to meet that need, and win more complex, higher-value clients. It’s also helping them create a more complete offering that keeps existing customers engaged and growing.

By embedding ELMO into their go-to-market strategy, Momentum is laying the groundwork for a scalable, repeatable solution that could evolve into a key revenue stream in the years ahead.

“We’re just getting started,” Alistair adds.
