How much time is admin taking from your people?

See what clunky HR, rostering and payroll admin is really costing you. Answer a few quick question to to reveal the potential hours saved, dollars reclaimed, and turnover reduced that a better system could grant you.

Count everyone on your payroll, including part-time and casual staff.

Count everyone whose main job is HR or People, as full-time equivalents.

Count the people who run payroll, as full-time equivalents. If payroll sits inside your HR team, count those hours here and not in question 2.

Pick the closest fit. Induction only is about 6 hours a year, induction plus refreshers about 12, regular role or safety training about 35, and a licensed or clinical workforce about 50.

Mostly manual means spreadsheets, email and paper. Some systems means you have tools but they do not talk to each other. Already on a connected platform means one system of record today.

Count the employees whose hours are set by a roster rather than a fixed schedule. Enter 0 if nobody is rostered.

Count each award and each enterprise agreement once. Example: the General Retail Industry Award, the Clerks award and a head office enterprise agreement is 3, so choose 2 to 3. If everyone is on contracts with no award or agreement, choose none or one.

Count everyone who left in the last 12 months, for any reason, and divide by your average headcount. Example: 75 leavers from 500 staff is 15%, so choose 10 to 20%. For comparison, the Australian average is 11% (ELMO 2026 HR Industry Benchmark).

How we value an hour, how this works.

Hours are valued at about $68 for HR and payroll staff and about $62 for everyone else. These are fully loaded rates. They include the 12% Superannuation Guarantee, state payroll tax where your wages bill crosses the threshold, workers compensation premiums and other employment costs. They are calculated on productive hours after leave and public holidays, not a notional 52-week year.

Fair Work award rates from 1 July 2026, the ELMO 2026 HR Industry Benchmark and published Australian absence and replacement cost research, plus ELMO’s own estimates.

Each result is one figure from your answers multiplied by a published or stated assumption. Where we use our own aggregated data set, we say so. Hours are shown in full. Value counts 75% of those hours as productive.

Actual outcomes will depend on factors including your organisation, processes, workforce, systems, implementation, product configuration and how the solution is used. The results are not a quote, forecast, guarantee or promise of outcomes, and should not be relied on as financial, accounting, legal, employment, tax or payroll compliance advice.

The figures and assumptions used are current as at 3 November 2026 and may change. You should obtain specific advice and prepare a separate business case, including applicable product, implementation and ongoing costs, before making any investment or operational decision.
